Mies had taken to leaning against a bookcase below the window seat that Arya occupied in the library. They both listened in on the debate between Winslet and Leif about the best fabric to sleep in. How they had gotten on the topic the other four hadn’t a clue, but when Leif had pulled out fabric samples, they had all tuned in.

Zephyr laid lazily over the chair furthest from Arya and Mies, his foot hanging over the arm as his head rested against the small ledge on the side of the backing. Idoh took the floor, tossing a dagger into the air before catching it.

The group had been drained from Arya’s story, including Arya, so, they hid. King Akash had called an emergency meeting, the ambassadors excused from the torture of sitting through war talk, much to Zephyr’s pleasure.

“When do you think he’ll fold and say silk?” Arya whispered to Mies.

He smirked, eyes glancing up to her. “I give it thirty minutes.”

Arya chuckled. “I’ll bet you another midnight swim that it’s twenty.”

“You’re on.” He smiled.

She tugged on his shirt, shifting over on her bench. He took the invitation, her arm draped over his legs as they both watched. Arya had noticed Idoh’s stare of Mies’s hand on her leg, never stopping the continued throw of his dagger. She felt uncomfortable with the look, Arya taking Mies’s hand from her, curling into herself.

“Fine, I guess silk is the better fabric choice,” Leif groaned with a smile.

“Twenty minutes exactly,” Arya whispered, “You owe me a midnight swim.”

“A horrible debt to own up to.” He smirked, though he looked disappointed.

“If you aren’t prepared to lose a bet, you shouldn’t take it,” she teased, hoping to remove the look from him.

He raised his brows. “My, my, Ambassador Arya, you are very wise, how did I not see it before?”

Her mouth dropped open playfully, crossing her arms.

“Arya, Mies, I want to ask you both something,” Zephyr said.

They turned to look to him, Zephyr straightening himself in his chair. “As you know, I will become King one day, and I will need a council of people I can trust.” He paused, smiling. “Arya, I want to formally offer you the position as Advisor to the King. Should you accept, you will become a permanent member of this court and province.”

Arya smiled. “I accept the offer. I don’t think I could part from this library.”

The group laughed, Idoh attempting to conceal a smile that twitched at the corners of his lips.

“Mies, I want to formally offer you the position of Regent,” Zephyr said.

Mies’s face went pale, mouth parting in awe. Leif and Winslet looked to Mies with wide eyes, Winslet covering her mouth. Arya only smiled to him, having been warned of the offer beforehand.

“You want me as Regent?” Mies asked.

Zephyr nodded. “If you feel inclined to take the position.”

Mies rubbed a hand down his face, looking to Arya who smiled brightly to him. His face softened and he nodded his head. “I accept.”

Zephyr grinned, clapping his hands.
